Technology: Android Lollipop makes beaming files a thing again

Remember back in the day, when "beaming" files between PDAs was a thing
Well those days might be here again, with the latest improvements in the file sharing capability of Google's Android mobile operating system.
Android Lollipop's developer preview includes an improved "Android Beam" feature that takes advantage of NFC sharing, enthusiast site Android Police said.
"In Android 5.0, Android Beam takes its place in the system-level sharing menu. So you can use any app to select a file and choose Android Beam from the menu," it said.

Android Police added that while NFC has existed since Android 4.0, the new version is "finally something you can use without second-guessing yourself."
With the improved feature, it said a user can use a file explorer to grab a random file then share it to another device with a tap.
"Previously you could only do that with image files. You would just open the file and tap. Sometimes it would work and other times not so much," it added.
However, Android Police said a user will have to initiate the new file beam from a Lollipop device. —Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
